MISSION OF THE OKC TEA PARTY
The Mission of the OKC Tea Party
“To call, educate, inspire, and motivate to action all Oklahomans and our elected representatives to restore out of control governments — at all levels — to governments that are operated according to the precepts and principles of our Founders and the limits imposed by our Founding Documents.”
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. — Thomas Jefferson
The Problem
1. Many Politicians, Few Statesmen. Most of the current problems facing America stem directly from the failure of our elected representatives to follow the Constitution. Tea Party activists are demanding a return to the principles and values advocated in our Founding documents: The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Many of those running for office vent about excessive spending, deficits, taxation, and regulation; but they struggle to say what they are for and what they would actually work toward once they are elected. Worse, once elected they forget promises made to reign in and limit government. The current politician directed economic and fiscal train is heading us toward fewer and fewer private sector jobs, bigger local, state and federal payrolls, and will ultimately cause dangerously high levels of inflation. In short, government is out of control. What’s needed is a change in leadership to the election of Statesmen who are faithful and unwavering in their devotion to restoring government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Statesmen who are concerned about the long term, not the coming election cycle.
2. A Legacy of Debt: Beginning with the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of the 1970s, the federal government has encouraged out of control and dishonest lending and borrowing practices; trillions in debt obligations arrogantly underwritten and “backed” by unknowing taxpayers. Big companies and unions with highly paid lobbyists have cut back-room deals to get special financial benefits to bail them out of their own bad decisions. Their greed and high lifestyles is being paid by average Americans who pay the taxes, fight the wars, and make this country work. Now, America has borrowed trillions we don’t have and yet the politicians make the debt tab go up and up, with no end in sight to profligate government spending. Who will ultimately pay? Our children and grandchildren in the form of lost opportunities, rising inflation, and a greatly depressed standard of living. Who will speak for our children and the yet to be born if we don’t now? We didn’t GET debt from the Great Depression; why should we GIVE debt from this Recession?
The Solution
1. Individual Activism. We are determined to protect our republican form of government. We must work tirelessly without rest so long as it is under attack from what can best be described as relentless Statists — those who think bigger and bigger government is the desired destiny of Man. While Tea Party rallies and other events can peacefully demonstrate to the Statists the real concern — and sometimes anger — of typical Americans, what’s most important is that concerned American “Tea Partiers” (1) see that they are not alone, (2) learn, and (3) are inspired to take action. What kind of action? First, learn about how our governance in America and our State is supposed to work and how politicians have perverted our republican form of government. Second, regularly and vigilantly learn and observe what’s actually going on. Third, develop an opinion or orientation about what’s occurring and ask these questions: Is what I am observing the way things are supposed to be? Is what I see what should be? Is what I am seeing right, honorable, and virtuous? Fourth, decide to act. Research and determine the courses of action you can realistically take and decide on the best course for YOU. Finally, Act. Do. Be!
2. Liberty’s Price: Eternal Vigilance From You. Politics is the struggle to make binding decisions over society. Sadly, it seems politics has more and more become a war that decides who rules and who gets the taxpayer paid spoils. Because of the threat to ourselves, our children and our children’s children, we can no longer “contract out” our politics. Thanks to American innovation and free markets, we now have high tech tools that can help us succeed at no cost or low cost in our cause. Our success nationwide, thus far, shows we know how to use these tools. As you look at the OKC Tea Party web-site, you’ll see a number of links to Conservative and Libertarian leaning people and organizations who are already engaged in the fight to keep our Liberty. You’ll see links that provide how to determine and how to contact your representatives. Consequently, there is now no excuse to not find out about the issues, not determine who the “bad and good guys” are, and not to decide who or what to genuinely support with commitment of your time, dollars, and effort. Furthermore, there is in most cases no need to “reinvent the wheel.” What’s needed is dollars and more numbers. Begun in February 2009, the new American Tea Party is not an organization, a political party, or a political action committee (PAC). The Tea Party is a movement, a loose coalition of concerned Americans who both think and feel strongly that our governing bodies have lost their way and need to be led back on the tracks so faithfully laid by our Founders. Consequently, the OKC Tea Party is not an organization that will endorse a political party or a specific candidate; it is merely a banner which gathers those who believe in sound ideas and principles that most Americans would want all political parties and candidates to sincerely adopt and genuinely implement. But in the final analysis, what they ultimately implement depends on you. How you vote (for politicians or Statesmen?). How you influence others (family, friends, neighbors, work associates). How you put the pressure on the elected or soon to be elected. It is you who joins, contributes to, and makes the special interest or public policy group work. It is you who picks a candidate, contributes to them, and becomes a volunteer for. Finally, it is you who votes. Can any organization do for you what you should indeed do? Would you “contract out” your’s and your children’s future?
Would you sit on your wall, see a threat coming, and expect someone else to take aim?
In conclusion, no Tea Party activist or conservative American wants NO government. What we want is LIMITED government. We understand that LIMITED government is also EFFECTIVE at doing the few things it is chartered to do. All we want is EFFECTIVE and CONSTITUTION BASED government.
