Ever wonder about the Black Keys on a piano. When you watch the below, you will never think the same again about the Black Keys. What wonderful music can be composed by an “Unknown Composer” using only “Slave Notes”!
…And more Music History:
Don’t know how many of you remember Kate Smith , but she was one very special woman. A real star. Here is her story and her song. Guaranteed to give you ‘goose bumps! In case you don’t know it, this is the person that is referred to as “The Fat Lady” in the trite verbalization of “It’s not over till the fat lady sings”.
Kate Smith was born and grew up in Columbia , Missouri In early 1940, Kate, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could give her a song that would re-ignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1917, but never used it. He said she could have it. She sat at the piano & played it and realized how good it was. She called Mr. Berlin and told him that she couldn’t take this from him for nothing. So, they agreed that any money that would be made off the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America .
Thanks to Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, the Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties.
The below film clip is from the movie “You’re in the Army Now”. You will see a familiar face (near the very end) in this one that we are all very proud of. Frank Sinatra said that when Kate Smith, whom he considered the greatest singer of his age, first sang this song on the radio, a million guys got ‘dust’ in their eyes and had to wipe the tears the ‘dust’ caused. Sit back and enjoy a Real Star.
File Under: Inflated Value of Current Education
Passage from Kirkham’s Grammar Book published in 1835: “on the 54th year of the Independence of the United States of America.”
“You are aware, my young friend, that you live in an age of light and knowledge;–an age in which science and the arts are marching onward with gigantic strides. You live, to, in a land of liberty;–a land on which the smiles of Heaven beam with uncommon refulgence.
The trump of the warrior and the clangor of arms no longer echo on our mountains, or in our valleys; “the garments died in blood have passed away;”the mighty struggle for independence is over; and you live to enjoy the rich boon of freedom and prosperity which was purchased with the blood of our fathers.
These considerations forbid that you should ever be so unmindful of your duty to your country, to your Creator, to yourself, and to succeeding generations, as to be content to grovel in ignorance.
Remember that “knowledge is power;” that an enlightened and a virtuous people can never be enslaved; and that, on the intelligence of our youth, rest the future liberty, the prosperity, the happiness the grandeur, and the glory of our beloved country. Go on, then, with a laudable ambition, and an unyielding perseverance, in the path which leads to honor and renown. Press Forward. Go, and gather laurels on the hill of science; linger among her unfading beauties; “drink deep” of her crystal fountain; and then join in “the march of fame.” Become learned and virtuous, and you will be great. Love God and serve him, and you will be happy.” (From page 15)
